Accurate and productive measurements are essential for industries and small-scale businesses to avoid loss and to attain more profits. Machine Tools Centre, is India’s most well-known and prolific name when it comes to providing a wide range of Level Gauge indicators and devices to ensure accurate, precise, and efficient measuring of the level of fluids or gases inside a tank or storage container. Precise measuring is the key to productive results which leads to more profits and better utilization of the resources and our level gauge provides precise and errorless results and solutions. In this blog, we’ll explore more about level gauges their different types, and their key features.

What is a Level Gauge?

Level Gauge is a device used to measure the level of fluids or gases inside a tank or storage container such as drums, pressure vessels, and more. These instruments are commonly used in industrial process applications to monitor fluid levels, ensuring effective, productive, and precise measurement.

Types of Level Gauges :

Tubular Level Gauge (TTG)

Tubular Level Gauges are designed to view liquid levels using clear or red line Borosilicate (Pyrex) tubing to view liquid levels. These valve bodies are rated for 500 PSIG at 450F. These sets are usable with oils and petrochemical liquids.

Reflex / Transparent Flat Glass Level Gauge (RFG AND TFG)

  •  The Reflex level gauges consist of the glass which has precision groves cut
  •  inner side and mainly used for colorless liquids. While on the other hand, the
  •  transparent level gauges mainly consist of glasses that are without
  •   groves and arranged at the front and rear of a slotted liquid chamber and
  •    mainly used for colored liquids.

Magnetic Type Level Gauge

  •     A Magnetic level gauge, usually made of non-magnetic materials such as
  •      stainless or plastic, contains a powerful magnet within it. As the liquid level
  •      changes, the float moves up or down within the chamber, causing the magnet to
  •      shift correspondingly.

Most Commonly Used Level Gauges for Measurements

Level Gauges play a vital role, mainly for those industries that deal in liquid materials such as oil, water, and spirit. Different types of gauges are required to monitor these liquids.

Oil Level Gauge

The oil level gauge not only enables the oil level to be viewed but also recorded using a REED switch.

How does it work?  :  When the float element reaches the selected minimum value after the circuit has been closed, the system emits an electric signal.

Water Level Gauge

Water level gauges are used to determine the apparent inclination of an object or surface and for matching water level elevations at locations that are too far apart for a spirit level to span.

How it works? :  When the water level increases and touches the sensor, the Red LED will glow indicating that there is water within the tank.

Spirit Level Gauge

A Spirit level is a tool used to indicate how parallel (level) or perpendicular (plumb) a surface is relative to the earth. A spirit level gets its name from the mineral spirit solution inside the levels.

How it works? : Typically, the vials in a spirit level are a yellowish-green color with additives for UV protection and maximum performance in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees F to 130 degrees F. The best spirit level is accurate to within plus or minus 0.5 millimeters/meter, or 0.005 inches/inch or .029 degrees. The next level of accuracy displayed is 0.75mm/m or 043 degrees. The vial bodies of a spirit level, also referred to as a bubble level, can be shaped like a barrel, like a rectangular block, or even curved, banana-shaped, to measure slope in fractions per foot of pitch; and are mostly made from acrylic today versus glass originally.

What is the Working Principle of Level Gauge?

The gauges work on the Archimedes Principle, which asserts that every item immersed in a fluid receives the same buoyant force as the weight of the displaced liquid. Magnetic level gauges are exceptionally robust and can be utilized when glass gauges crack or are destroyed.

Features  and Advantages of Level Gauges

Some features that can make level gauges more desirable are being programmable, having a controller, recorder, and totalizer functions, and a built-in alarm indicator that notifies you visibly or audibly.

  • Easy Installation
  • Durability for Harsh Environment
  • Ability to withstand high pressure, temperature, and vibrations.
  • Built-in Alarm/Indicator
  • Recorder / Totalizer Functions

FAQS

What is a Level Gauge Used for?

A level gauge is a tool that is used for measuring the level of fluids or gases inside a tank or storage container such as drums, pressure vessels, and more. They are widely used in industrial processes wherein performing a direct physical measure of fluid levels is impossible, impractical, or dangerous, such as if the fluid is hazardous or the tank containing the fluid has to remain sealed.

What is the Principle of a Level Gauge?

The gauges work on the Archimedes Principle, which asserts that every item immersed in a fluid receives the same buoyant force as the weight of the displaced liquid.

What is the Unit of Level Gauge?

Units of level measurement are usually in percent. However, a level measurement of 0% does not necessarily mean that a vessel is empty — and 100% does not necessarily mean that the vessel is full.

What Are the Applications of Level Gauge?

Level gauges are sensing and measuring devices used to monitor the level of a fluid in a tank or other storage container. These instruments are commonly used in industrial process applications to monitor fluid levels in drums, tanks, pressure vessels, and other similar applications.
